Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Pune Airport’s Cutting-Edge Terminal Remotely

Pune, March 10, 2024 – In a groundbreaking development for Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art integrated terminal building at Pune Airport in Lohgaon through a remote connection. The event, attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, Cooperation Minister Dilip Valse Patil, and Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakantada Patil, marked a significant leap forward in the state’s air travel capabilities.

The new terminal aims to elevate air travel convenience and comfort for the general public, aligning with the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation facilities. The inauguration ceremony featured the unveiling of a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and showcased cultural elements such as Sri Vitthala’s mural, Warli art, and the traditional game Mallakhamba. This move not only adds a touch of local culture but also provides a platform for selling and promoting local products within the terminal.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the state government’s dedication to developing a robust network of airports across Maharashtra, including plans for a new airport in Purandar, Pune district, to meet the increasing demand for aviation services. He highlighted the potential economic impact, stating that the new airport would generate employment, create new supply chains, and contribute to a 2 percent increase in Pune’s GDP.

Adding to this, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar revealed that Prime Minister Modi had inaugurated 12 new passenger terminals at various airports, showcasing the government’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure. Plans for 14 airport projects, totaling Rs. 10,000 crore, were disclosed, including the construction of a new airport and cargo center at Purandar.

Dr. H. Srinivas provided detailed insights into the facilities within Pune Airport’s new integrated terminal building, emphasizing its modern amenities and the capacity to accommodate 3,000 passengers during peak hours. The program also highlighted visionary changes in the country’s transportation sector, including the completion of projects like Vande Bharat Railway and the establishment of new airports.
