Pune, Maharashtra – The Sassoon General Hospital in Pune has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first hospital in Maharashtra to successfully perform a Total Knee Replacement Surgery using a robot. This achievement underscores the excellence of the government hospital’s medical capabilities.
On September 8, surgeons at Sassoon General Hospital carried out this groundbreaking surgery on a 60-year-old man from Shirur who had been battling severe osteoarthritis in both knees. Despite the patient’s additional health challenges, including diabetes and hypertension, the surgery was performed on his left knee with the assistance of a ‘Cuvis’ robot. The procedure was a resounding success, and the patient is currently in the recovery phase, expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. Notably, the surgery was provided free of charge at Sassoon Hospital.
Robotic Knee Replacement surgeries are celebrated for their precision and accuracy, resulting in a higher likelihood of success and fewer post-operative complications. The meticulous alignment achieved through robotic assistance aids in faster wound healing and a smoother recovery process.
