PMRDA Under Fire: Allegations of Favoritism Towards Gujarat Contractors

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) finds itself embroiled in controversy as allegations of preferential treatment towards two contractors from Gujarat surface in relation to the sector 12 housing project in Bhosari. Despite persistent complaints about incomplete work and project delays, PMRDA has yet to levy fines, casting doubts on the organization’s impartiality.

Persistent Issues Plague Sector 12 Housing Project

Intended to offer affordable housing solutions, the sector 12 housing project has been besieged by a myriad of problems since its inception. Residents have voiced grievances ranging from substandard construction to water supply issues and leaks in essential amenities like toilets and bathrooms.

Contractor Accountability Under Scrutiny

The contractors entrusted with the project have faced criticism for delays and insufficient repairs, with penalties imposed for missed deadlines and unresolved issues. However, reports suggest that these penalties have not been enforced, prompting concerns about PMRDA’s fairness in dealing with the contractors.

Calls for Transparency and Resolution

Residents, disillusioned by the lack of accountability and unresolved issues, are demanding transparency from PMRDA. They highlight the need for effective communication channels to address grievances promptly and ensure the completion of necessary repairs before proceeding with future project phases.

Challenges Persist Despite Assurances

Despite assurances from PMRDA officials regarding penalty enforcement and corrective measures, challenges persist. Attempts to reach out to designated engineers have been futile, exacerbating frustrations among residents and further delaying resolution efforts.

PMRDA’s Response

PMRDA’s chief engineer, Ashok Bhalkar, directed inquiries to the relevant executive engineer, yet attempts to establish contact remained unsuccessful. Vishwanath Kshirsagar, a junior engineer at PMRDA, stated that penalty procedures against the contractors have been initiated, emphasizing the urgency of completing pending work promptly.

As the controversy surrounding the sector 12 housing project continues to unfold, residents remain vigilant, urging authorities to prioritize accountability and transparency in addressing their concerns.
