PMRDA Seeks PMC’s Cooperation for Metro Parking: Pune’s Infrastructure Takes a Forward Leap

In a significant move towards enhancing Pune’s metro infrastructure, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has requested the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to provide eight amenity spaces for the construction of parking facilities around metro stations on the upcoming Shivaji Nagar-Hinjewadi Metro Line-3.

Additionally, PMRDA has achieved a crucial milestone by signing an agreement with the Pune District & Sessions Court to secure the land required for the erection of the last station on the Shivaji Nagar-Hinjewadi Metro Line-3.

Parking Spaces for Seamless Connectivity: Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector at PMRDA, emphasized the necessity of parking areas within a 500-meter radius of each metro station. Due to the shortage of land for parking spaces along Metro Line-3, PMRDA has identified 10 suitable amenity spaces, with two falling under PMRDA’s jurisdiction. Efforts are underway to develop these spaces into parking facilities. However, for the remaining eight spaces within PMC’s jurisdiction, PMRDA has requested PMC either to develop them independently or hand them over for parking space construction.

Land Acquisition for Last Metro Station: Jagtap also revealed that the process of acquiring land from the Pune District & Sessions Court for the last metro station on Metro Line-3 has been ongoing for the past 2-3 years. The land, spanning over 1150 sq m, has been secured through an agreement, marking a significant step towards completing the metro line.

Future Impact on Metro Stations: Upon obtaining the amenity spaces from PMC, PMRDA anticipates providing parking for seven additional metro stations, including prominent locations like Balewadi Stadium, NICMAR, Ram Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, and Baner metro station.

This collaborative effort between PMRDA and PMC reflects the commitment to streamline transportation infrastructure and promote seamless connectivity for Pune residents.
