PMRDA Initiates Feasibility Testing for Pune Metro Expansion on Two Key Lines

Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has commenced comprehensive feasibility testing for the proposed metro expansion projects connecting Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor and Khadakwasla to Kharadi. These extended metro lines aim to enhance connectivity and convenience for the residents of Pune.

In a statement, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer of PMRDA’s Metro Division, revealed, “A technical and transaction advisor has been appointed for the extended Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor metro project. Additionally, for the Khadakwasla to Kharadi metro line, which is currently under the jurisdiction of Maha Metro, we have engaged a transactional advisor to assess the feasibility of execution under a PPP basis. The feasibility checks for both projects are currently underway, and the execution models will be decided based on the advisor’s reports. This entire process is anticipated to take approximately three months.”

As per information shared by PMRDA officials, here are the key details for both metro projects:

  1. Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor: The existing Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro project is being expanded, with a proposed extension to Loni Kalbhor. The extended route, which may include a branch on Saswad Road, is suggested to pass through significant locations such as Shivajinagar, Pulgate, Hadapsar, and Loni Kalbhor.
  2. Khadakwasla to Kharadi: Managed by MahaMetro, the metro line running between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate is proposed to be extended from Khadakwasla to Kharadi, covering a distance of 28 km. The objective of this extension is to enhance metro connectivity in the area.

The thorough examination and feasibility assessment signify a strategic approach by PMRDA to ensure the successful execution of these metro expansion projects, catering to the evolving transportation needs of Pune.
