PMRDA Cracks Down on Unauthorized Hoardings: Notices Issued to Over 400 Offenders

In a bid to curb the proliferation of unauthorized and hazardous advertisement hoardings, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has issued notices to over 400 individuals across nine talukas. The notices serve as a stern warning, emphasizing the necessity of obtaining official permission for erecting hoardings to prevent legal repercussions.

PMRDA has underscored its commitment to promptly remove any unauthorized hoardings posing safety risks. Furthermore, the authority has affirmed its intent to pursue legal action against advertising organizations responsible for accidents caused by such structures.

The crackdown on unauthorized hoardings and flex banners comes in response to concerns regarding public safety and urban aesthetics. Tenders were initially invited for the removal of these structures, with subsequent rounds being initiated due to a lack of response. However, the technical aspects of enforcement are being carefully considered against the backdrop of the Model Code of Conduct.

Among the nine talukas falling within PMRDA’s jurisdiction, Mulshi taluka stands out with the highest number of unauthorized flex banners, totaling 386. Following closely behind are Haveli taluka with 231 flexes, Shirur taluk with 120, and Bhor with 111. Velha and Purandar talukas have minimal occurrences, with only 1 and 10 flexes respectively.

Unauthorized hoardings exceeding height and size restrictions in PMRDA areas, particularly those surpassing the roofs of high-rise buildings or situated along national highways, pose significant risks during seasonal winds. To mitigate potential fatalities and financial losses, PMRDA strictly prohibits the installation of such structures.
