PMPML’s Transit Tango: Navigating the Altered Routes on Pune’s Pedestrian Day

Pune : In a bid to promote pedestrian-friendly spaces, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to observe December 11 as Pedestrian Day, transforming the bustling Laxmi Road into a vehicle-free zone from 10 am to 8 pm. As a result, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has announced significant changes to bus routes on Laxmi Road during this period.

According to PMPML, the following modifications will be implemented:

  1. Closure of Bus Routes 7 and 9: These routes will remain closed during the designated period.
  2. Alternative Routes for Bus Routes 55, 58, and 59: These buses will ply through Kumthekar Road on the regular route while heading towards Shanipar and Appa Balvant Chowk, Narayan Peth, Alka Talkies Chowk, and onwards.
  3. Adjusted Route for Bus Route 57: Buses heading towards Pune Station will take Bus Route 94 via Narayan Peth to Alka Talkies Chowk and then operate on the regular route.
  4. Continued Regular Routes for Bus Routes 81, 144, 144A, 144C, and 283: These buses will maintain their regular routes while going to Pune station and will ply via the PMC route when coming from Pune station.
  5. Modified Route for Bus Route 174: Buses will continue on the regular route from Pune Station to NDA until Pune City Post, where they will turn left from Pune City Post Chowk to Swargate, Sarasbaug, Tilak Road, Deccan Corner, and resume their regular route from NDA to Pune Station.
  6. Route Adjustment for Buses on Routes 197 and 202: Buses from Hadapsar going to Kothrud Depot/Warje Malwadi will turn left from Pune City Post Chowk to Swargate, Sarasbaug, Tilak Road, Deccan Corner, and continue on the regular route from Kothrud Depot/Warje Malwadi to Hadapsar.
  7. Regular Route for Bus Route 68: Buses will continue via the regular route when going to Upper Depot and via Tilak Road when coming from Upper Depot to Sutardara.

Post the conclusion of the ‘Walking Plaza,’ all buses on the above routes will resume their regular schedules.

To facilitate transportation for citizens attending the ‘Walking Plaza,’ additional buses will run at increased frequencies. Buses from Nagarkar Talim Chowk (N.M.V. Chowk) to Bajirao Road via Pune Municipal Corporation will operate every 30 minutes. Buses from Swargate to Umbrya Ganpati Chowk and back will run every 40 minutes, while buses from Deccan to Umbrya Ganpati Chowk and back will run every 30 minutes, with more frequent buses planned.

For those coming from Shivajinagar Civil Court Metro Station, buses on Bus Route 2, from Shivajinagar Railway Station to Swargate, will run via Civil Court Metro Station every 4 minutes.

Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of these convenient transportation options during the event.
