PMPML Initiates Plan to Construct 1,000 Bus Shelters in Pune, Tendering Process Expected to Conclude in Three Months

Pune, 7th August 2023: Responding to public feedback and concerns regarding the deteriorating state of bus shelters across the city, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has embarked on an ambitious mission to construct 1,000 new bus shelters. These shelters will be developed under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) framework, with the tendering process anticipated to conclude within the next three months.

Recognizing the pressing need for improved infrastructure, the PMPML has taken the strategic step of engaging 10 distinct contracts with various advertisers. This approach aims to accelerate the construction process and ensure timely completion. Each bus shelter is estimated to cost around Rs 4 lakh, with a significant emphasis on enhancing the size and functionality of the shelters in comparison to their predecessors.

Reports reveal that despite having floated tenders approximately eight times in the past, no suitable takers emerged among advertisers. However, the PMPML has proactively revised its approach to encourage greater investor participation. By making necessary alterations to the existing regulations, the organization aims to attract more stakeholders willing to contribute to this vital civic endeavor.
