PMC’s Healthcare Overhaul: Pune Civic Hospitals Set for Bed Capacity Boost

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to boost the bed capacity and staff numbers at civic hospitals across the city in the coming two months. This expansion plan has received approval from the municipal commissioner and aims to enhance healthcare facilities for residents.

As per the official announcement, the PMC intends to add 160 additional beds across civic hospitals after the successful implementation of this plan, which is scheduled to occur within the next two months. This decision comes in response to the observation that the existing bed capacity in civic hospitals was insufficient to meet the demands of patients, leading to a significant number of referrals to the Sassoon General Hospital.

The implementation of the plan will occur in multiple phases. In the initial phase, hospitals such as Kamla Nehru Hospital in Mangalwar Peth, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Yerwada, and Sonawane Hospital in Bhavani Peth will see an increase in both beds and staff. The second phase will focus on hospitals like Laygude Hospital in Sinhagad Road, Dalvi Hospital in Shivajinagar, and Magar Hospital in Hadapsar.

Furthermore, the PMC is planning to collaborate with private companies willing to contribute equipment and funds under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Several private firms have expressed their interest in supporting the PMC’s efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure in the city, and this partnership is expected to aid in the expansion of medical facilities at civic hospitals.
