PMC: Pune Municipal Corporation Takes Firm Stand Against Rogue Rooftop Hotels, Urges District Collector For Stringent Action

Illegal Rooftop Hotels

Pune: In a decisive move aimed at ensuring public safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has served notices to 26 rooftop hotels within the city. Despite initial action, these establishments quickly resumed operations, causing persistent concerns for the Municipal Corporation. In response to this, the corporation has formally written to the district collector, urging a more robust stance against these defiant hotels.

Following the Municipal Corporation’s crackdown, these rooftop hotels defiantly resumed operations, seemingly unfazed by the potential consequences. In a bid to stamp out the issue completely, the corporation wrote down the issue to the district collector, prompting the formation of a dedicated committee to investigate and issue notices to non-compliant hotels.

The corporation is determined in its crackdown on these rooftop hotels in the city, considering the safety of people. However, as these hotels are getting permits from the district administration, the corporation decided to penned down a collector in this matter, providing a list of these establishments and appealing for the cancellation of their liquor licences.

Additionally, it has come to light that the Corporation has suggested to the District Collector the necessity of obtaining a ‘no-objection certificate’ from the Corporation prior to issuing licences to hotels and bars.

In line with these efforts, the Commissioner has instructed all junior engineers in the construction department to take action against unauthorised constructions within side and front margins, with a mandated report due within a fortnight.

Acting on these directives, the construction department has initiated appropriate measures. Concerns for public safety have led the police to recommend the closure of rooftop hotels, prompting the District Collector to form a committee that includes a civic official to oversee the issuance of liquor licences.
