PMC Launches Anti-Mosquito Drive in Kharadi – Mundhwa Amid Health Concerns

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), led by Dr. Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Health Officer, has taken swift action to address the rising concerns of a mosquito outbreak in the Kharadi – Mundhwa area. The main cause of the mosquito menace is attributed to breeding spots created by water hyacinth.

The fogging operation, aimed at eliminating mosquitoes, commenced on Saturday, February 10, 2024, and is scheduled to continue for the next 10-15 days. Residents had voiced their discomfort and health concerns due to the increasing mosquito population, prompting PMC to intervene.

Dr. Suryakant Deokar explained, “Actions are being taken in collaboration with the environment department to address the issue of water hyacinth, which is contributing to the mosquito problem. As a precautionary measure, fogging is being carried out daily in residential areas and nearby societies using vehicle-mounted and small machines. If the problem persists after 15 days, we will employ drones to eliminate hyacinths by applying medicines.”

Residents are advised to take personal precautions and minimize outdoor activities during this period.

The issue is not limited to Kharadi, as water hyacinth has also proliferated in the Mundhwa area adjacent to Kharadi, attributed to growing water pollution. The ongoing cleanup work has already resulted in the removal of some water hyacinths, especially in the stretch of the Mutha River near Kharadi.
