Pune, March 9, 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health department has secured the top position in the state, outperforming all municipal corporations in Maharashtra for its outstanding performance in January. The rankings, released by the state health department on Thursday, placed PMC’s health department at the forefront, highlighting its exemplary efforts and achievements.
In the evaluation, PMC’s health department earned the highest score among all civic bodies in Maharashtra for its performance in January. The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation’s health department secured the second position, while the health department of the Sangli civic body ranked third. Notably, the health departments of Nagpur and Navi Mumbai municipal corporations claimed the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Contrastingly, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s health department stood 19th in the rankings for its January performance. Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, the Chief Health Officer at PMC, expressed his congratulations to the employees for their exceptional efforts. Dr. Pawar stated, “PMC’s health department has been ahead of other civic bodies in Maharashtra in the past few months. We have featured in the top three slots in most of the months from April last year.”
Dr. Pawar emphasized the department’s commitment to meeting the targets set by the Centre and the state government, along with enhancing surveillance and coverage for various health schemes. The state health department conducted the analysis based on civic bodies’ contributions to various schemes related to maternal health, child health, family planning and welfare, adolescent health, inputs in the reproductive and child health portal, TB eradication, National Leprosy Eradication Programme, National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, National Urban Health Mission, and Ayushman Bharat.
