PM Modi Criticized by Sharad Pawar for Targeting Nehru, Lacking Achievements

NCP Chief Accuses PM of Diversionary Tactics Amidst Economic Challenges

The ongoing political discourse in India witnessed a new chapter as Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), launched scathing criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Pawar’s remarks came in response to Modi’s recent comments targeting India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Addressing a public rally in Daund tehsil, Pawar accused Modi of lacking personal achievements and resorting to criticisms of Nehru as a diversionary tactic.

Pawar’s Critique

  • Absence of Achievements: Pawar asserted that Modi’s relentless criticism of Nehru stems from his own dearth of accomplishments during his ten-year tenure as Prime Minister. Pawar highlighted the irony of Modi’s fixation on Nehru despite the significant time lapse since Nehru’s tenure, suggesting it as evidence of Modi’s inability to showcase substantial achievements of his own.
  • Unfulfilled Promises: Pawar reminded the audience of the unfulfilled promises made by Modi prior to assuming office, particularly focusing on economic and employment-related pledges. He cited Modi’s failure to deliver on his promise of reducing fuel prices by 50% within 50 days of taking office in 2014. Despite over 3,650 days passing since then, fuel prices have surged, exacerbating the burden on the common man. Additionally, Pawar criticized Modi’s inability to fulfill commitments such as job creation and reduction of cooking gas prices.

Political Implications

  • Support for Congress: Pawar’s remarks indirectly lend support to the Congress party, which has often been the target of BJP’s criticism. By challenging Modi’s narrative and aligning with the Congress against BJP’s coercion, Pawar signals a strategic move to bolster opposition unity and counter the ruling party’s dominance.
  • Neglect of Critical Issues: Pawar also criticized Modi for purportedly neglecting pressing issues such as the Chinese intrusion and drew parallels between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This comparison underscores Pawar’s apprehensions regarding Modi’s governance style and foreign policy decisions.
