Residents Express Growing Concerns Over Depleting Water Supply
As the water levels in reservoirs continue to decline, Pimpri-Chinchwad, a bustling city near Pune, is grappling with a severe water crisis. Following in the footsteps of Bengaluru and Gurugram, this metropolitan area is now facing acute shortages, leaving its residents anxious about their basic water needs.
For the past several years, Pimpri-Chinchwad has been relying on water supply sourced from multiple locations, including the Pavana Dam in Maval, Andhra Dam, and MIDC. However, recent disruptions in the supply chain, particularly from the Andhra Dam, have exacerbated the situation. Despite efforts by local authorities to mitigate the crisis, the shortfall in water supply persists, impacting areas such as Charholi, Moshi, Dudulgaon, Bhosari, and Dighi.
To address the escalating crisis, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has engaged in discussions with the Irrigation Department of the Government of Maharashtra. However, the challenges persist as the water supply from Andhra Dam remains inadequate, leading to complaints of insufficient and low-pressure water.
Efforts to secure additional water from alternative sources, such as MIDC, have been initiated to alleviate the strain on existing reservoirs. Nonetheless, concerns loom large as the city grapples with a widening gap between water demand and supply.
Residents are increasingly vocal about their apprehensions regarding the sustainability of water provision in the region. While authorities assure the populace of ongoing efforts to address the crisis, the urgency of the situation calls for swift and effective action to ensure adequate water access for all residents.
