Overwhelming Response: 5,501 Applications Flood in for 111 Professor Positions at SPPU

Pune News – Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is witnessing an unprecedented influx of applications for the 111 vacant professor positions across various departments, with a staggering 5,501 applications received within the application period. The response highlights the intense competition among candidates vying for these limited positions, with certain departments garnering significant interest.

Among the applications received, the Chemistry department leads with 1,038 applicants, followed by 764 applications for the Physics department, 523 for Zoology, 371 for Marathi, and 265 for the Botany department. The influx of applications for the relatively few available posts indicates a highly competitive recruitment process.

The recruitment process commenced with an online application deadline of February 16, followed by the submission of hard copies by post until February 29. Despite the university’s clarification that applications received after February 29 would not be considered, submissions continued until March 2.

According to SPPU, the received applications will undergo a meticulous scrutiny process. Given the substantial number of applications, the screening is expected to take a considerable amount of time. The university plans to complete the screening and interview processes in the coming days, despite the impending announcements of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.

Professor Vijay Khare, In-Charge Registrar at SPPU, acknowledged the overwhelming response from eligible candidates. He stated, “There has been a good response from eligible candidates. A total of 5,500 applications have been received by the university within the given period. More than 500 applications have been received for each of the posts in many departments. Now, the further recruitment process will be implemented under the leadership of SPPU vice-chancellor Professor Suresh Gosavi.”
