Pune: In a shocking incident in Pune’s Kalyaninagar area, the minor son of prominent builder Vishal Agarwal ran over two people with a luxurious Porsche car in the early hours of Sunday morning. The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, who were riding on a bike.
Witnesses reported that the Porsche was travelling at such a high speed that Ashwini Costa was thrown into the air upon impact, dying instantly. Aneesh Awadhiya also succumbed to injuries inflicted by a severe blow to his ribs.
Public outrage has erupted over the incident, especially after revelations that Vishal Agarwal’s son received special treatment from the police. After a medical examination at Sassoon Hospital, the driver and his friends were brought to Yerawada Police Station around 1:30 p.m. During their time in custody, senior police officers allowed the family to order pizza and burgers for the children, with a policeman reportedly delivering the food. The Maharashtra Times newspaper has reported about it.
Adding fuel to the fire, the young accused was released on bail just 15 hours after the incident. The court imposed seemingly lenient conditions, including a mandate for the accused to assist traffic police at intersections for 15 days, paint traffic boards, and write a 300-word essay on accidents. He has also been directed to undergo counselling by a psychiatrist.
Local MLA and Pune Lok Sabha Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar expressed his strong disapproval of the situation. He announced plans for a protest, stating in a tweet, “If someone has a lot of arrogance of money, we Punekars have the power to punish them.”
