On Two Wheels: Mundhwa Police’s Bicycle Patrol Wins Minister’s Applause

In a commendable display of innovation and efficiency, the Mundhwa Police Station in Pune has earned praise from Chandrakant Patil, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Textiles, and Parliamentary Affairs for the State of Maharashtra. The occasion was Diwali, and Minister Patil’s visit to Mundhwa village shed light on the police station’s unique approach to patrolling—bicycle patrolling.

Upon arrival at the event venue, Minister Patil witnessed firsthand the advantages of this unconventional patrolling strategy. Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane took the opportunity to explain how, in areas with narrow roads, alleyways, and congested traffic, traditional four-wheeled police vehicles encounter limitations. Bicycle patrolling, however, proves to be a more agile and efficient method, ensuring visible patrolling to prevent and control crimes, maintain law and order, and enhance women’s safety.

Minister Patil acknowledged the dual benefits of bicycle patrolling, recognizing its effectiveness in law enforcement and its positive impact on the physical health of police officers. He commended the efforts of the Mundhwa Police Station for implementing such a proactive and health-conscious approach.

Accolades were extended to Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane and other officers, including PSI Anil Binwade, ASI Ramesh Ugle, and Constables Vaibhav More, Gokul Sodanwar, Dayanand Gaikwad, and Swati Parbhan, for their commendable efforts in executing bicycle patrolling.

The event drew the presence of several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Ex-Minister Dilip Kamble, MLA Sunil Kamble, Ex-MLA Jagdish Mulik, Bapu Pathare, Pramod Bhangire (Shiv Sena), and other notable personalities.
