Next Stop: Last-Mile Convenience – PMRDA’s Vision for Hinjawadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro Line

Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line

In a bid to revolutionize commuting experiences, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to embark on a transformative journey of multi-modal integration (MMI) along the expansive Hinjawadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro corridor. With 23 stations spanning the 23.3km elevated stretch, this initiative is strategically designed to enhance last-mile connectivity for the commuters.

Taking a cue from its Mumbai counterpart, PMRDA envisions a comprehensive MMI plan that will be seamlessly woven into the fabric of all 23 stations along the Hinjawadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro corridor. As the third Metro line is being implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, the project concessionaire will play a pivotal role in mirroring the success of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) MMI plan.

Reports indicate that PMRDA’s strategy encompasses a spectrum of measures geared towards optimizing the overall commuting experience. From upgrading parking facilities to developing robust infrastructure along the route, the plan aims to ensure convenient access to a diverse range of transport options, including autorickshaws, buses, private cabs, and electric bikes. While the project is in the midst of its development journey, the MMI planning will kick off as the completion milestone nears.

Scheduled for operational commencement by the end of April 2025, the third Metro line has already reached the 50% completion mark. An official from PMRDA reiterated the agency’s commitment to aligning station design and development with the transit-oriented development policy issued by the state government on March 9, 2019. This policy blueprint emphasizes pedestrian pathways, non-motorized transport infrastructure, and the integration of facilities catering to para-transit modes.

As Pune anticipates the transformative impact of the Hinjawadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro corridor, the PMRDA’s MMI initiative emerges as a crucial component, promising a seamless and interconnected future for commuters in the region.
