According to official sources, the augmentation of the existing bus fleet is on the horizon. To enable real-time tracking of PMPML buses through Google platforms, a comprehensive testing phase is currently underway. Moreover, there is a concerted effort to facilitate online purchases of PMPML tickets, streamlining the passenger experience even further.
The driving force behind these transformative initiatives is none other than Sachindra Pratap Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML. Singh’s visionary leadership has led to a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud, resulting in the installation of cutting-edge equipment on 14 PMPML buses as part of an initial trial phase.
Satish Gate of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. shed light on the developments: “Our primary objective at this juncture is to equip 14 buses with state-of-the-art technology on a trial basis. The success of this pilot program will pave the way for the integration of these systems across the entire PMPML bus fleet. Passengers will gain access to precise bus locations, a feature poised to significantly enhance their commuting convenience.”
Expounding further on the technological advancements, Gate explained, “We are diligently working towards introducing a user-friendly app that facilitates online ticketing for PMPML services. This innovative system will leverage QR codes, ensuring a seamless and efficient ticketing process for our passengers. Moreover, in our pursuit of excellence, we are engaging in discussions with the BEST for potential collaborations that can drive further advancements in the realm of public transportation.”
Current estimates indicate that an impressive two lakh individuals rely on the PMPML bus services daily, underscoring the critical role these buses play in the city’s mobility landscape. The ongoing endeavors aim to raise the bar on passenger amenities, necessitating the replacement of aging buses within the PMPML fleet. This overhaul is expected to culminate in the addition of brand-new buses, fostering a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for all.
