Sharad Pawar

In a strategic move following their strong performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has set its sights on the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for later this year. The alliance, comprising the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and Congress, has announced their intent to contest the elections together. Amidst these developments, the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) has specifically staked its claim on six key assembly constituencies in Pune.

Strategic Meeting at NCP Bhavan

A crucial meeting was convened at the NCP Bhavan in Pune, where party leaders assessed their strengths across all eight assembly constituencies in the city. The review considered various factors such as existing party influence, the availability of strong candidates, and the likelihood of electoral success.

During this meeting, Prashant Jagtap, the Pune city president, presented a detailed report to senior leaders, including Jayant Patil, the state president. The report emphasized the NCP (SP)’s desire to field candidates in six out of the eight assembly constituencies in Pune. The constituencies identified were Hadapsar, Wadgaonsheri, Khadakwasla, Shivajinagar, Parvati, and Pune Cantonment.

Press Conference in Mumbai

The announcement of the MVA’s united front for the assembly elections was made at a press conference in Mumbai. Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, and prominent Congress leaders shared their decision to contest the elections collectively, aiming to consolidate their influence and increase their chances of winning a significant number of seats.

Assessing Party Strengths

The NCP (SP)’s focus on six assembly constituencies in Pune is based on a thorough assessment of the party’s current strengths and electoral prospects. The leaders are confident in their ability to secure victories in these areas, leveraging their existing support base and the popularity of their candidates.

The constituencies of Hadapsar, Wadgaonsheri, Khadakwasla, Shivajinagar, Parvati, and Pune Cantonment have been highlighted as strongholds where the NCP (SP) candidates are expected to perform well. This strategic selection aims to maximize the party’s presence and impact in the Pune region, contributing to the overall success of the MVA in the assembly elections.
