NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) Protests Against BJP’s ‘Decentralization’ Efforts in Pune

Pune, March 9, 2024 – The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharadchandra Pawar staged a protest at Mitra Mandal Chowk in Parvati, expressing their discontent against what they perceive as the ‘decentralization’ of Pune city by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Prashant Jagtap, President of NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) Pune City, voiced the party’s concerns, stating, “The government, in power for the last ten years, should have prioritized reading the development plan before the people. However, due to the absence of a development board even after a decade in power, the BJP had no choice but to deface Pune city to garner votes in the elections.”

According to Jagtap, the BJP’s political strategy has resulted in the deterioration of Pune’s aesthetics. He emphasized that, on behalf of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), a robust protest was organized at Mitra Mandal Chowk in Parvati to oppose the perceived decentralization of Pune city.

Jagtap criticized the BJP’s tenure at the Center, stating, “In the last ten years under Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country has witnessed increased debt, economic collapse, rising unemployment, inflation, industries relocating from India, heightened violence against women, increased farmer suicides, and losses due to a lax export policy. The Modi government has failed on multiple fronts.”

Expressing frustration, Jagtap accused the BJP of resorting to city defacement as an attempt to divert attention from their shortcomings. He stated, “Ashamed to ask for votes, the Bharatiya Janata Party has initiated the disheartening practice of painting BJP slogans in public places through a ‘wall writing’ campaign. In response, the NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar) organized a strong protest against the defacement of the city.”
