MSRTC’s Currency Transition: Farewell to Rs 2000 Notes from September 29

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a significant change in its payment policy for bus tickets. From September 29 onwards, the corporation will no longer accept Rs 2000 notes as valid payment.

Farewell to Rs 2000 Notes: MSRTC Implements Currency Change

The Divisional Traffic Officer of MSRTC Pune, Sachin Shinde, has confirmed that the decision to stop accepting Rs 2000 notes in all MSRTC buses comes in response to orders received. Passengers intending to use this denomination for purchasing bus tickets will have the opportunity to do so until September 28, after which the currency will no longer be accepted.

Reserve Bank of India’s Deadline Approaches

The Reserve Bank of India had initially set a deadline of September 30 for accepting Rs 2000 notes. However, MSRTC’s decision to halt their acceptance aligns with the deadline of September 28, reducing the window for commuters to utilize these notes.

A 15-Day Countdown: What Passengers Should Know

Previously, MSRTC had instructed its buses across all regions not to accept Rs 2000 notes. With the new announcement, this directive will be in effect for a limited period of 15 days, culminating in the discontinuation of Rs 2000 notes for bus ticket payments after September 28. Passengers are advised to carry alternate denominations to ensure hassle-free travel during this transition period.
