Monsoon Update: Pune Expects Rainfall as Withdrawal Approaches

As October unfolds, the monsoon continues to weave its rain-laden tale across western Maharashtra, including the vibrant city of Pune. The rhythmic pitter-patter of raindrops remains a familiar sound, echoing across regions like Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Ahmednagar.

Monsoon’s Lingering Presence: This weather phenomenon finds its roots in the presence of an east-west shear zone, extending its influence over the region. Gokul Tamilselvam, a diligent research scholar from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, sheds light on the monsoon’s timeline. According to his insights, the monsoon is expected to bid adieu to these lands by the 5th of October 2023.

Rainfall on the Horizon: In a related meteorological update, Vineet Kumar, a dedicated research scientist specializing in ocean-cyclone interactions, brings attention to the immediate forecast. It suggests that Pune may be graced with a gentle downpour, expected to bestow approximately 20-30mm of rainfall today, particularly in the late afternoon. A similar story unfolds for the bustling cities of Mumbai and Thane, with rainfall projections ranging between 30-50mm.

Sky’s Mosaic Canvas: KS Hosalikar, the esteemed Head of IMD (Indian Meteorological Department), unveiled intriguing satellite observations on the 28th of September. These observations painted a picture of partly cloudy skies adorning the majestic ghat areas of Maharashtra, enveloping regions like Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, and even extending into the picturesque landscapes of Karnataka.
