Pune News: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a health advisory following a notable rise in typhoid cases across the city. This advisory outlines essential precautions for citizens to mitigate the spread of waterborne diseases, which are expected to surge during the monsoon season.
Key Advisory Points
The PMC advisory emphasizes the importance of following specific dos and don’ts to prevent waterborne diseases, which typically spread through the consumption of contaminated water or food. Here are the main recommendations:
- Drink Safe Water: Citizens are urged to consume only clean, potable water. Water from unused wells should not be used for drinking.
- Avoid Stale Food: Stale and unhygienic stored food should be strictly avoided to prevent illness.
- Report Symptoms: Individuals experiencing symptoms such as nausea, cold, fever, or diarrhoea should promptly report to the nearest government hospital for examination and treatment.
Health Officer’s Statement
Dr. Suryakant Devkar, Assistant Health Officer of PMC, stressed the importance of immediate medical attention for anyone exhibiting symptoms. “Citizens with symptoms like nausea, cold, fever, diarrhoea, etc., should report to the nearest government hospitals,” he advised.
Additional Preventative Measures
The advisory also includes specific guidelines to prevent vector-borne diseases, which are common during the monsoon season:
- Water Storage: Avoid storing water for more than five days to prevent mosquito breeding. Containers used for drinking water should be emptied once a week, thoroughly washed, wiped, and kept dry.
- Mosquito Control: Prevent mosquito breeding in and around homes by ensuring that there is no stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed.
