MNS Demands Renaming of Pune Metro Stations to Honor Historic Icons

Pune: The Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) has taken a stand in advocating for the renaming of two prominent Pune Metro stations, urging the Municipal Commissioner, Vikram Kumar, to reconsider the current names allocated to these stations. The MNS delegation, led by prominent leader Babu Wagaskar and City President Sainath Babar, has put forth a request to designate the station near the Civil Court as “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Metro Station” and the station in Mandai as “Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai Station.”

The Pune Metro Rail Project, aimed at enhancing public transportation in the city, is currently under construction. The station located in the central part of the city, adjacent to the Worker Statue and Civil Court, has been named “Shivajinagar.” However, the MNS is firm in its stance that the station should be renamed “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Metro Station” in honor of the great Maratha warrior king, Shivaji Maharaj, who holds immense historical significance.

Similarly, the MNS believes that Mandai should bear the name “Mahatma Jotiba Phule Mandai Station” to pay homage to the social reformer and visionary, Mahatma Jotiba Phule, who played a crucial role in empowering the marginalized sections of society.

In their statement to the Municipal Commissioner, the MNS delegation emphasized the need to commemorate and preserve the legacy of these iconic figures through the naming of significant public spaces. They argue that such gestures would not only inspire the present generation but also instill a sense of pride and respect for the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra.
