Military Hospital Khadki Hosts Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Update 2023

Pune, November 6, 2023: Military Hospital Khadki in Pune recently played host to a two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) event, titled “Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Update 2023,” held on November 4th and 5th. This gathering brought together Service Orthopaedic Surgeons along with their accomplished civilian counterparts from across the nation to exchange ideas, insights, and best practices in the fields of sports injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

The event’s inauguration on November 4, 2023, featured Lt Gen Narendra Kotwal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Commandant Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). Additionally, it witnessed Dr. Parag Sancheti, Chairman of Sancheti Group of Hospitals and a renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon, sharing his decades-long journey of academic and clinical excellence.

The theme of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) revolves around ‘The Soldier Athlete,’ emphasizing the notion that a soldier, whether scaling the heights of the Himalayas, enduring the scorching Thar Desert, or navigating the open seas, shares common ground with elite athletes. Just like athletes, soldiers need to maintain peak physical and mental fitness to excel in the battlefield and during their rigorous training for border defense.

In a show of gratitude, the Service Orthopaedic community honored their former professors from the Armed Forces Medical College, acknowledging their visionary contributions to the field of Orthopaedics within the Armed Forces.

In the services, sports and training-related injuries are prevalent. Orthopaedic Surgeons, in collaboration with Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation experts, bear the significant responsibility of managing these injuries and aiding soldiers in their return to both the sports field and the battlefield. This event served as a platform for experts to share their knowledge through a comprehensive program, featuring carefully curated talks, service Orthopaedics sessions, a Sports rehabilitation Workshop, a Cadaveric Workshop, Hands-on Workshops, and even a Robotic Simulator for practical training.
