Pune, August 22, 2023 – With the recent route adjustments made to the Vanaj to Ramwadi metro line, the absence of adequate parking facilities near metro stations has emerged as a concern. In response, a collaborative effort between the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Mahametro is underway. A joint committee is being established to tackle this issue by identifying suitable locations for parking lots, aiming to enhance the convenience of metro passengers.
During a meeting held today, representatives from both the Municipal Corporation and Mahametro engaged in discussions regarding the lack of sufficient parking options near metro stations, which has been inconveniencing commuters.
The alteration of the metro route was necessitated in order to preserve the historical significance of the Aga Khan Palace, classified as a heritage site. Additionally, the metro’s route along Jangli Maharaj Road was redirected through the riverbed towards the Municipal Corporation.
This route deviation led the metro through Kalyaninagar from Yerwada on Nagar Road, ultimately reconnecting with Nagar Road at Ramwadi. These adjustments also prompted changes in the locations of metro stations.
The metro service is now operational between Vanaj and Ruby Hall Clinic. Recognizing the essential requirement for ample parking facilities for metro passengers, an assessment of potential spaces along the route is in progress. A dedicated committee, comprising two officials each from the Pune Municipal Corporation and Mahametro, will spearhead this initiative.
Srinivas Bonala, Head of the Project Department, confirmed that the Mahametro station will be developed within municipal premises, ensuring a seamless commuting experience for passengers. As the Pune metro network continues to evolve, addressing parking challenges stands as a pivotal step towards enhancing overall public transportation experience in the city.
