Massive Fire Engulfs Baramati Garbage Depot, Causes Extensive Damage to Sorting Machinery

Baramati, August 24, 2023: A significant fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday morning at the Garbage Depot located in Ambikanagar, Baramati, resulting in extensive damage to the garbage sorting machinery and equipment. The fire, which spread rapidly, consumed valuable sorting machines and other equipment, causing a substantial loss estimated to be around Rs 80 lakh.

The affected machinery, which had been introduced a few months ago by the municipal council for efficient waste management and sorting, was a critical component of the depot’s operations. The fire’s exact cause is currently under investigation, with authorities and experts examining the scene to determine the root cause of the blaze.

Swift action was taken in response to the fire, with fire-fighting vehicles and personnel, as well as resources from nearby sugar factories, immediately mobilized to contain the flames and prevent further escalation. While the efforts of the responders managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading further, the damage to the machinery was already substantial.

Senior officials from the municipal council and related authorities visited the site to assess the extent of the damage and plan the next course of action. An in-depth investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the fire and any potential lapses in safety protocols or equipment maintenance.
