Maharashtra’s Proactive Move: SOPs Unveiled to Tackle Housing Society Grievances

In a forward-thinking move, the Department of Cooperatives in Maharashtra has taken the initiative to establish a comprehensive set of rules and procedures (SOPs) to address the myriad issues faced by around seven lakh housing societies and their residents. A dedicated committee has been formed to delineate the processes for resolving complaints, with the implementation of these rules slated for the upcoming new year.

The Department of Cooperatives, extending its support to members of cooperative housing societies in Pune and across the state, aims to streamline the resolution of domestic issues. An online portal, named ‘Sahakar Samvad,’ has been launched to facilitate the registration and follow-up of complaints related to cooperative housing societies.

The SOP committee focuses on key aspects, including:

  • Addressing diverse grievances of housing societies and their residents.
  • Ensuring impartiality and justice in complaint resolution.
  • Coordinating complaint resolution among officers in cooperative departments statewide.
  • Establishing a standardized rule framework for grievance redressal.

Comprising three Deputy Directors from the Cooperative Department and one representative from Housing Societies, the four-member committee will delve into approximately 23 types of complaints to formulate effective SOPs. This strategic initiative is poised to provide a structured and equitable mechanism for addressing the concerns of residents in cooperative housing societies across Maharashtra.
