Pune, 2nd August 2023: The Loyola Football Cup, powered by Tata Autocomp, witnessed thrilling matches as Loyola High School showcased their dominance in the U-14 and U-16 categories. However, it was The Bishop’s School, Camp, who prevented the hosts from a clean sweep by claiming victory in the U-12 final at Loyola H.S ground, Pashan, on Wednesday.
Organized by the Ex Loyola Students Network (ELAN) and Loyola High School, Pune, the tournament concluded with hard-fought victories becoming the highlight of the day.
In the U-12 final, The Bishop’s School, Camp secured a 2-0 win over the hosts. Hitaansh Khatri (38th) and Abheer Jadhav (43rd) scored within a span of six minutes to clinch the title.
In the U-14 section, Loyola H.S made a comeback, registering a 6-4 tie-breaker win after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Rehan Jaipuri (18th) gave The Bishop’s School an early lead, but Param Kulkarni’s brace (38th and 41st) turned the tables in Loyola H.S’s favor. Rajveer Singh (60+3) equalized for The Bishop’s School, leading to a tie-breaker.
During the tie-breaker, Loyola H.S emerged victorious with Param Kulkarni, Aaryavardhan Kakade, Parth Shinde, and Kharanshu Gajare scoring, while The Bishop’s School could only convert two, courtesy of Joshua Songate and Aaryaveer Singh.
The U-16 final was a thrilling seven-goal encounter, with Loyola H.S sealing a comeback 4-3 win. Aariz Shaikh (15th) put The Bishop’s School ahead, equalized by Vedant Kamble (39th). Lavya Asrani (53rd) and Vedant Gupta (57th) scored for Loyola H.S, while Aariz Shaikh (54th) and Atharva Phadtare (55th) netted for The Bishop’s School.
At 3-3, Vedant (58th) secured the winning goal for Loyola H.S, adding another title to their name.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Arvid Goel, MD Tata Motocomm, Fr. Anish, Principal of Loyola H.S, along with Manoj Walvekar, President of ELAN, and Harjeet Matharu, Secretary of ELAN.
