Love Prevails: 18 Couples Choose Reconciliation at Pune’s National Lok Adalat

In a touching display of resilience and commitment, 18 couples found the strength to mend their relationships at the National Lok Adalat in Pune. Among these stories of reconciliation was that of a couple, married in 2018, who had been living apart for six years due to unresolved differences.

The husband, a temple priest, and his homemaker wife faced challenges when she expressed her desire for independence, leading to their separation. The situation worsened with accusations of domestic violence, legal proceedings, and a potential divorce with custody battles. However, with the intervention of a dedicated counsellor, the couple found common ground and chose to reconcile for the well-being of their four-year-old daughter.

Vaishali Chandane, president of the Family Court Lawyers’ Association, emphasized the role of communication in resolving marital disputes. She stated, “Minor problems can escalate due to a lack of communication. In this case, we helped them understand that their actions affected their child’s health. The couple decided to work together for the sake of their daughter.”

Sonal Patil, secretary of the District Legal Service Authority, Pune, highlighted the success of the Lok Adalat, with 18 couples opting for reconciliation out of 216 family court cases. Patil encouraged citizens to utilize initiatives like ‘Let’s Talk’ to address issues early and prevent family court disputes.

Lawyer Sunita Jangam shed light on common issues leading to divorce, including late working hours, lack of time for partners, and career-related conflicts. The National Lok Adalat not only serves as a platform for settling disputes but also emphasizes rebuilding relationships for a stronger future. It provides couples with an opportunity to communicate and resolve differences amicably.
