Lonavala’s Panoramic Pivot: PMRDA Unveils Glass Skywalk Project

In a bid to enhance the allure of Lonavala as a tourist destination, the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority (PMRDA) is gearing up to undertake the construction of a ‘Glass Skywalk’ at Tiger Point and Lions Point. The decision, reached during a recent Mumbai meeting chaired by Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, underscores the focus on tourism development in the Lonavala and Maval area.

Elevating Tourism with a ‘Glass Skywalk’

Recognizing the inherent natural beauty of the Lonavala region and responding to the consistent influx of tourists, the initial proposal suggested entrusting the Tourism Department with the construction of a ‘glass skywalk.’ This visionary project was designed to incorporate adventure games and child-friendly facilities, placing a strong emphasis on nature-friendly and environmentally conscious features.

However, with the Tourism Department expressing its inability to execute the project, Minister Ajit Pawar directed the PMRDA to take the helm. Ramdas Jagtap, the public relations officer of PMRDA, affirmed the authority’s commitment to spearhead the project. The first step involves crafting a comprehensive project plan with funding from the state government.

The estimated cost for the ‘Glass Skywalk’ project stands at approximately Rs 100 Crores. The plan prioritizes tourist safety, underscores environmental preservation by opting for stones over concrete for footpaths, integrates designs harmonizing with the natural surroundings, and includes essential facilities such as parking.

Features and Ambitions of the ‘Glass Skywalk’ Project

Encompassing an expansive area of 4.84 hectares at Tiger Point and Lions Point, the proposed ‘Glass Skywalk’ is envisioned to offer a spectrum of adventure sports, including zip-lining. The project also encompasses a food park, an amphitheater, an open gym, and a variety of games. This initiative aligns with the vision of transforming these scenic locations into vibrant tourist hubs, catering to both adventure enthusiasts and those seeking a serene natural experience.

PMRDA is poised to submit a funding proposal to the government shortly, seeking approval for this ambitious tourism development project.
