Life Imprisonment and 2 Lakh Rupees Fine Imposed on Murderers of Youth Due to Past Enmity

Pune Sessions Court

Pune, August 24, 2023: The district court has rendered a verdict of life imprisonment along with a fine of 2 lakh rupees for each of the four individuals found guilty of the fatal stabbing of a young man as a result of a longstanding feud. Additional Sessions Judge PP Jadhav announced this decision.

The convicted individuals, identified as Haider Javed Syed (18, resident of Vijayanagar, Kalewadi), Vikram alias Vicky Nandu Bihari alias Bhilare (21), Sajeesh Ashok Kurwat (all residents of Kalewadi), and Avinash Gautam Bansode (18, resident of Hind Kesarinagar, Bopkhel), were subjected to this sentencing.

The victim, Rakesh Namdev Ghule (25, resident of Bopkhel), met his tragic end on November 21, 2010. A case was registered against a total of seven individuals, including the four who have now received their sentences, at the Hinjawadi police station.

Among the accused, one was a minor at the time of the crime, while another passed away during the trial. The proceedings for the remaining accused are being conducted separately due to their critical medical condition. The four individuals who were handed the life sentence were incarcerated from September 2012 until February 16, 2019.

The roots of the incident can be traced back to March 2010 when Rakesh reportedly attempted to stab one of the accused in Bopkhel. Consequently, seeking retribution for this altercation, the culprits devised a plan and met with Rakesh at Kalewadi Phata in Thergaon on November 21, 2010. There, they brutally attacked him, inflicting 36 wounds to his hand, head, and back using sharp weapons. During the course of the investigation, two knives used in the crime were discovered at the scene.

Public Prosecutor Rajesh Kavedia led the case, presenting the testimony of 11 witnesses to corroborate the charges. The accounts of a doctor and eyewitnesses held significant importance.

In addition, the court ruled that a compensation of 5 lakh rupees should be awarded to Rakesh’s family from the collected fine. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one-year imprisonment, as stipulated by the court’s judgment.
