In a resolute move, the Pune Excise Department has taken decisive action by revoking licenses from a prominent establishment, Airking Restaurant and Bar in Bibwewadi. This action follows a series of complaints from local residents and allegations of illicit activities occurring on the premises. Notably, this establishment had already been embroiled in two prior cases brought against it by the Excise Department, one on June 30 and another on September 26, culminating in the revocation of its license on October 4, 2023.
CB Rajput, Superintendent of State Excise for Pune Division, stated, “We have received numerous complaints from nearby residents and the local MLA regarding Airking Restaurant and Bar.”
In parallel, the Excise Department has also taken the extraordinary step of canceling licenses for several beer shops found to be involved in the sale of foreign liquors, as added by Rajput.
These actions are part of a dedicated campaign undertaken by the Pune Excise Department to combat the illegal production and sale of liquor. Executed between October 2 and October 8, this campaign has resulted in a staggering 284 registered crimes, 242 arrests, and the seizure of items valued at Rs 1,19,51,830.
The revocation of licenses serves as a robust deterrent to establishments that engage in unlawful activities, underlining the department’s unflinching resolve to uphold liquor laws and regulations. This crackdown is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety and welfare of Pune’s residents while also holding businesses accountable for their actions.
