Land Shift: Pune’s Swargate Transport Hub to Become Permanent Home for Maha Metro

In a recent decision by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the proposed leasing of a 13,941 square feet plot at Swargate to Maha Metro for 10 years has been canceled. Instead, the corporation has approved the permanent allocation of this valuable space to Maha Metro for a sum of Rs 38.54 crore. The decision was reached during a meeting of the standing committee.

Pune is actively expanding its metro network, with the Vanaz to Ramwadi and Swargate to Pimpri-Chinchwad routes currently in their final stages. The underground metro station at Jedhe Chowk in Swargate, part of the Swargate to Pimpri-Chinchwad route, is nearing completion and is expected to be operational in the coming months.

Initially, the decision to lease approximately 13,941.94 square meters of land at Swargate Chowk was made in 2021, including the Water Supply Department’s Final Plot No. 499 and 500 A of Parvati TP Scheme 3. The committee established for this purpose, on January 17, 2023, set the annual rent for the Swargate Transport Hub land at 12 percent, considering a 10-year lease.

However, a recent decision in the Standing Committee and the General Assembly on February 8 favored the permanent allocation of the land to Maha Metro for Rs 39.54 crore. The agreement will be formalized between the Pune Municipal Corporation and Maha Metro, pending the approval of the State Government.
