Karve Road Parking Situation: Delay in Installing Parking Boards Causes Confusion

Karve Road Parking

Pune: It has been nearly two weeks since the cancellation of the no parking rule on Karve Road, from Khandujibaba Chowk to Hutatma Rajguru Chowk (Karisma Society area). However, the necessary steps to install parking boards and road markings to guide citizens on where to park have not yet been taken by the Municipal Corporation. The delay is attributed to awaiting a letter from the police.

The absence of parking spaces on Karve Road, due to the ongoing metro work between Vanaj and Ramwadi, as well as the flyover construction at Nal Stop, has inconvenienced citizens for the past five years. Although a year has passed since the completion of these projects, no decision has been made regarding the removal of the no parking rule. This prompted the Karve Road Traders Association and MNS Janadhikar Sena to take a strong stance against the issue.

Finally, on June 19, the Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil chaired a meeting at the Municipal Corporation, ordering the cancellation of the no parking rule and directing the identification of suitable parking areas in collaboration with the traders’ trust.

Following the minister’s order, the no parking signs were promptly removed from Karve Road. However, there is now confusion among citizens regarding the exact locations for parking on the street. This confusion poses a risk of potential penalties or enforcement actions. To address this, it is essential for the Municipal Corporation to coordinate with the traffic police to install parking boards and road markings.

Dr. Kunal Khemmanar, Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, stated, “The no parking signs on Karve Road have been removed. As soon as we receive the letter from the traffic police specifying the designated parking areas, we will install the necessary boards and road markings.”

Vijayakumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, confirmed that a meeting was held at the municipal corporation regarding Karve Road and assured that the traffic police would reissue the letter specifying the parking locations.

The timely installation of parking boards and road markings will play a crucial role in guiding citizens and avoiding any confusion or unintended violations. It is hoped that the authorities will expedite this process to ensure a smooth parking experience for residents and visitors on Karve Road.
