INS Shivaji Embarks on ‘Veer Shivaji Cyclothon’ for FIT INDIA Vision

Lonavala: In alignment with the ‘FIT INDIA’ vision, INS Shivaji, the naval training establishment, has commenced an Ultra Cycling Expedition named Veer Shivaji Cycling Expedition as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The event, flagged off by Cmde Mohit Goel, NM, Commanding Officer of INS Shivaji, took place in Lonavala on January 4, 2024.

The Veer Shivaji Cycling Expedition is a testament to the commitment towards fitness and a healthy lifestyle, promoting the ‘FIT INDIA’ initiative. The expedition will unfold in two phases, covering a distance of more than 2000 kms from Lonavala to INS Valsura at Jamnagar, Gujarat, and back. The participants are expected to complete this challenging journey in approximately 20 days.

Commanding Officer Cmde Mohit Goel expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This cycling expedition not only promotes physical fitness but also serves as a tribute to the maritime legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji. Through interactions with the local populace along the route, we aim to spread awareness about India’s rich maritime heritage.”

The participants will engage with communities along the way, sharing insights into the nation’s maritime legacy and the historical significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji. This initiative not only underscores the importance of physical fitness but also aligns with the broader objective of fostering a sense of pride in India’s cultural and historical heritage.

The Veer Shivaji Cyclothon stands as a unique initiative combining fitness, adventure, and cultural outreach, highlighting the holistic approach of the Indian Navy toward national well-being.
