Impressive Property Tax Revenue of ₹1,278.96 Crore Achieved by PMC on Deadline Day

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has achieved a significant milestone by collecting ₹1,278.96 crore in property tax revenue on the last day of the extended deadline. Last year, the revenue collected on the final day amounted to ₹1,145.32 crore. With this remarkable performance, the PMC is poised to surpass its revenue collection of ₹2,566.67 crore in the previous fiscal year of 2022-23.

PMC property tax department head, Ajit Deshmukh, expressed satisfaction with the revenue collection, stating, “PMC received ₹1,278.96 crore till Wednesday evening. Last year, on the last day, PMC received ₹1,145.32 crore revenue. The civic body had received ₹2,566.67 crore revenue in 2022-23. This year, the PMC is expecting to surpass that.”

The increased revenue collection this year can be attributed to various factors, including better tax compliance by property owners and a streamlined tax collection process by the PMC. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and the revised tax structure, the civic body has successfully managed to meet its targets.

The delay in property tax collection was caused by a technical error that occurred on July 31, leading to the extension of the deadline to August 2. The revised tax structure played a role in the delay as well. In April, the PMC was unable to issue bills due to the decision to introduce a 40 percent discount in property tax, which was finalized in May 2023.
