IMD Alert: Below-Normal Temperatures Grip Pune, Winter Sets In

Recent meteorological observations have revealed a significant drop in maximum temperatures across Shivajinagar and Lohegaon areas in Pune, indicating a shift to below-normal conditions. The influence of northerly cool winds has intensified across the state, leading to temperatures 1-2 degrees below normal on Saturday.

On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the lowest maximum temperature in the state at 10 degrees Celsius in areas including Pashan and Haveli tehsil, both situated in Pune. Simultaneously, Shivajinagar reported a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius.

Analysis of the data indicates that maximum temperatures in Shivajinagar and Lohegaon areas have dipped below normal levels. Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 27.9 degrees Celsius, representing a deviation of 1.1 degrees below the normal level. Similarly, Lohegaon reported a maximum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, marking a 2.4-degree departure from the normal level.

Looking ahead, the forecast predicts a continued decrease in temperatures across Pune starting from December 18. Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD, Pune, highlighted that the state is likely to experience clear skies in the upcoming days, contributing to a potential 2-3°C fall in minimum temperatures over parts of North Central Maharashtra from December 18. Residents are advised to prepare for the further onset of winter chill as the temperatures continue to drop.
