In a video that circulated on Wednesday, January 9, the sighting of 3 to 4 hyenas near Bombay Sappers Hill in Pune has raised concerns among residents. The viral video, shared by user Prashant Gandhi, has prompted warnings for individuals heading towards Dighi Dhanori hill to exercise caution.
Previous Sighting in Pride World City:
This recent hyena sighting follows a video that emerged a few days ago, capturing a hyena wandering in Pride World City at Dhanori Lohegaon Road. The society members expressed their alarm, reporting the unusual sighting to the forest department. However, the hyena vanished before any further action could be taken, leaving residents puzzled.
Forest Department and NGO Response:
Both the forest department and an animal rescue non-governmental organization have addressed the concerns, emphasizing that hyenas and other wild animals often inhabit the city outskirts. They assure residents that there is no need for undue panic or alarm.
Raj Varak, the range forest officer from the Pune forest department, informed that a dedicated team has been deployed to trace the hyena. Once located, appropriate action will be taken to ensure the safety of residents and the animal.
