Housing Society Voter Registration Campaign Yields Positive Results: Over 20,000 New Voters Registered in Pune

Pune: The Housing Society Voter Registration Campaign in Pune City, which commenced on July 22, 2023, has already seen an impressive registration of over 20,000 new voters, reflecting a positive response from the citizens.

This campaign is a key component of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, a flagship initiative by the Election Commission of India. In addition to voter registration efforts, the campaign also involves extensive voter education and literacy drives to empower citizens with information about their electoral rights and responsibilities.

The campaign focuses on two major segments: housing societies and college students. In a concerted effort to maximize voter registration ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year, both these groups are being encouraged to participate actively. The overarching objective of the campaign is to achieve 100% registration of eligible voters in the district. To gauge the campaign’s progress, a survey is conducted every weekend, spanning from July 22 to November 2023.

The campaign’s structure encompasses four distinct categories of activities. Form 6 is designated for new voters, Form 6B facilitates the linkage of an Aadhaar card to a voter ID, Form 7 serves the purpose of removing names from the existing electoral roll, and Form 8 is employed for requests related to a change of address.

During the initial two weekends of the campaign (July 22-23 and July 29-30), a total of 35,898 applications were received, reflecting a significant engagement from the public. Among this count, more than 20,000 individuals were registering as first-time voters, indicating a surge in civic participation among the younger demographic.

The campaign is a testament to the community’s responsiveness and enthusiasm towards actively engaging in the democratic process. The Election Commission’s efforts, alongside the citizens’ proactive involvement, contribute to strengthening the foundation of a robust and inclusive electoral system in Pune.
