Home Minister Rewards Pune Police with 25 Lakhs for Busting International MD Drugs Racket”

Pune City Police’s resolute efforts in dismantling a significant drug smuggling operation, specifically targeting the international mephedrone (MD) trade, have earned them a special commendation from Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Home Minister, during his visit to the Pune Police Commissionerate, announced a reward of 25 lakhs in recognition of the outstanding performance of the police force.

The operation successfully unearthed and dismantled an extensive MD drug racket, resulting in the seizure of a staggering 1800 kg of the banned substance, commonly known as Meow Meow. The estimated value of the seized drugs in the international market is a whopping Rs 3700 Crores. Earthchem Laboratories, situated in Kurkumbh MIDC, has been identified as the manufacturing hub for these illegal substances, leading to the immediate sealing of the facility. Among the nine arrested individuals, the factory owner is a notable figure.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar shed light on the modus operandi of the accused, revealing that the illegal drugs were not only distributed within various cities in India, including Pune, Sangli, and Delhi, but were also shipped internationally. Parcels of the illegal substances were traced to London.

Addressing the urgency of tackling drug trafficking, Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the importance of stringent action against peddlers and stockists.
