Pune, 25th June 2023: A distressing incident of cyber fraud has recently emerged from Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi, where an IT engineer fell victim to a deceitful investment scam, resulting in a loss of 49 lakhs.
The victim, Snehasingh Hridaynarayan Singh, a 35-year-old resident of Hinjewadi, took immediate action by filing a complaint with the Hinjewadi police station. Consequently, a case was registered against the accused, identified as Adhuri Ganguly.
The fraudulent activities transpired between March 28 and April 28, with the complaint being lodged two months later. As per the police investigation, the accused initially contacted the victim through WhatsApp, sharing a link and offering a part-time job that involved liking YouTube videos. To gain the victim’s trust, the accused provided payments of 150 and 350 rupees for completing these initial tasks. Exploiting this trust, the fraudster presented an alluring investment opportunity, claiming to have highly profitable tasks. The victim was assured that upon completing three tasks, the invested amount would be returned with an additional 30 percent profit.
Believing in the promises made, the victim proceeded to invest a total of 49 lakhs in three different tasks. Unfortunately, once the funds were transferred, the accused vanished without delivering any returns or reimbursing the initial investment.
Authorities urge the public to be cautious and skeptical of unsolicited investment opportunities or any transactions that seem too good to be true. It is essential to verify the authenticity of individuals and platforms before sharing personal information or making financial commitments.
