A frightening incident shook commuters on the Mumbai-Pune highway as a bus rammed into a stationary oil tanker near Punawale, resulting in chaos on the busy expressway. While no fatalities were reported, the bus driver sustained severe injuries in the collision, which occurred on the afternoon of March 14.
According to Sunil Pinjan, Senior Police Inspector of the Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police, the accident unfolded around noon near Torna Mutton Khanawal in the Punawale area. The oil tanker had broken down and was parked on the side of the highway when the speeding bus crashed into it from behind. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
In a dramatic rescue operation, emergency responders managed to extricate the trapped bus driver, whose legs were pinned inside the wreckage. He was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Additionally, a passing car became entangled in the accident, sustaining damages in the collision. Fortunately, occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries.
Efforts to clear the debris and restore traffic flow were promptly initiated, with authorities deploying a crane to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene. Despite the significant damage inflicted on the bus, tanker, and car, the timely intervention ensured the safety of commuters and minimized the impact on traffic movement along the expressway.
