Guiding Through Centuries: PMC’s Vision for a Modern Shaniwarwada Experience

Pune’s historical gem, Shaniwarwada, is set to embrace modernity as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to introduce a digital audio-guided tour, offering tourists a seamless blend of technology and historical richness. The proposal, submitted by the electricity department, has been greenlit by the standing committee of the PMC, promising an enhanced experience for visitors.

Bhagyashri Deshpande, Executive Engineer at PMC Electrical Department, Shared “For the ease and comfort of tourists, digital audio will soon be available at Shaniwarwada. QR codes will be strategically placed, allowing visitors to scan the code and pay nominal charges to access audio information in Marathi, Hindi, and English.”

The proposed rates for accessing audio information are Rs 50 for Marathi, Rs 75 for Hindi, and Rs 100 for English. This initiative aims to cater to the diverse linguistic needs of visitors, with plans to expand the audio guide to other languages for the benefit of foreign tourists.

Shaniwarwada, located in the heart of Pune, stands witness to the historical tapestry not only of the city but the entire country. Its construction commenced in 1730, concluding in 1732, marking the subsequent periods of prosperity and decline of the Maratha Empire. The site attracts tourists from across the state, country, and abroad, eager to delve into its rich history.

Presently, tourists rely on expert guides for insights into Shaniwarwada’s history. With the introduction of the digital audio guide facility, PMC aims to provide a more accessible and convenient experience for visitors exploring the iconic Shaniwarwada.
