PIMPRI: A reserved train seat will be allotted to another passenger, if it is not occupied till the next station.
Reserved seats till next station only
The railway administration has provided handheld tabs to ticket checkers (TCs). Passengers with reserved tickets are allowed to occupy their seats till the next station from where they have booked it. IF not occupied till the next station, a TC will register such a seat as ‘not turned up’ (NT). Thus, a waiting list passenger would get the seat.
Earlier system
A railway passenger with a reserved seat could occupy it at any next station from where it is booked. This used to pose problems in getting a seat for waiting list passengers.
TC to register absence
A TC used to check reserved tickets of every passenger and mark it on paper. However, it will be registered online in a tab provided to TCs. This has made their job easier. This will also facilitate allotting non-occupied seats to the waiting list passengers as the details are available online.
