Ghorpadi Flyover Opens: Pune Residents Breathe Easy Amidst Traffic Woes

Pune, March 10, 2024 – After grappling with traffic snarls for nearly four decades, Ghorpadigaon in Pune is poised for a transformative change with the inauguration of two crucial flyovers. The Pune-Solapur and Pune-Miraj railway lines, long-standing sources of congestion, now have dedicated bridges, bringing much-needed relief to the residents of Ghorpadi village and surrounding areas.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Dada Pawar, and Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, marked the fruition of years of relentless efforts by Sunil Kamble, the MLA of Cantonment Vidhan Sabha Constituency. Kamble’s advocacy, which began during his tenure as Chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee, secured funding from both the state government and his MLA fund.

The flyover over the Pune-Solapur railway line spans approximately 1 kilometer, accompanied by a service road, while the one over the Pune-Miraj line covers a distance of 700 meters. With 104 trains on the Solapur track and a hundred on the Miraj route daily, the perpetual closure of railway gates had led to constant traffic congestion. The newly constructed bridges are expected to significantly ease this deadlock.

The Mundhwa-Keshavnagar-Kharadi area, which witnessed increased urbanization over the past two decades, will also benefit from these flyovers. Overcoming bureaucratic hurdles, including permissions from the Defense Department, was crucial for the project. In 2016, a transfer of 4,560 square meters of cantonment area facilitated the construction of the Miraj Marg bridge.

In a collaborative effort, the municipality will compensate the camp council with Rs. 10 crores for the construction of 34 houses, necessitated by the Miraj Marg bridge passing through their premises. Additionally, the municipality plans to construct eight houses along Miraj Marg.

Newly Constructed Bridges:

  1. Pune – Solapur Railway Bridge
    • Length – 1010 meters
    • Cost – 48.50 crores
  2. Pune – Miraj Railway Bridge
    • Length – 636 meters
    • Cost – 48 crores

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of former Minister of State Dilip Kamble, MLA Siddharth Shirole, former mayor Muralidhar Mohol, and numerous other citizens, marking a momentous step towards smoother transportation in the region.
