Gang Member Fires at Eatery Manager in Pune Over Denied Rs 20,000

Pune News: In a shocking incident, an eatery manager, Vicky Raju Chandaliya (31), was targeted in an attack by a gang of seven assailants in Yerawada. The assailants, demanding Rs 20,000 in ‘hafta’ (protection money), resorted to violence when their demand was refused.

Details of the Incident:

  • The attack occurred at an eatery opposite Agrasen High School in Yerawada, approximately an hour past midnight on Thursday.
  • Vicky Raju Chandaliya, along with his brother Rahul, manages the eatery on behalf of its owner, a woman.
  • According to Inspector (Crime) Rahul Jagdale of the Yerawada police, the gang demanded protection money from Vicky before launching the assault.

Arrests Made and Suspects:

  • Five out of the seven assailants have been apprehended on charges including attempted murder, assault, and extortion.
  • The arrested individuals are identified as Akshay Chandaliya (24), Aman Chandaliya (27), Abhishek Chandaliya (27), Sandesh Jadhav (18), and Sushant Kamble (29).
  • One accomplice, Sanket Taru, is currently evading arrest.
  • The main suspect, Akash Chandaliya, sustained a head injury during a scuffle with Vicky and his helper. He is currently receiving treatment at Sassoon General Hospital.

  • Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil stated two probable motives behind the attack: extortion and a dispute over rental income from a property.
  • Akash Chandaliya, a known criminal since 2013, had a personal grudge against Vicky and his brother for allegedly not providing financial assistance during his incarceration.

Condition of the Victim:

  • Vicky Raju Chandaliya sustained a bullet wound above the waist along with sharp weapon injuries to his back and head.
  • He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, with doctors reporting his condition as stable.
