Ganesh Mandal Workers Arrested for Assaulting Grieving Family Over DJ Sound in Pune

In a distressing incident that unfolded during a Ganesh procession in Pune’s Ganesh Nagar area, a 37-year-old man and several of his family members fell victim to a violent assault by members of a Ganesh mandal. The altercation occurred when the man, mourning the recent loss of his son, kindly asked the mandal workers to reduce the volume of their DJ system as it passed through the area. The incident escalated tragically, resulting in injuries to multiple family members.

The Talegaon Dabhade Police Station promptly registered a case and took action against those responsible. A total of 21 individuals associated with the Ganesh mandal have been arrested in connection with the attack. Charges have been filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 141 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (common object), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act and sections 135 and 37(1) of the Maharashtra Police Act have been invoked.

The arrested individuals were produced before the court, and they have been remanded to police custody for five days. The investigation into the matter is ongoing as the police work to ascertain the full details of the incident.
