Ganesh Festival Delight: Pune Relaxes Loudspeaker Rules for Five Celebratory Days

In a move aimed at accommodating the celebratory spirit of the upcoming Ganesh festival, the loudspeaker deadline in Pune will be relaxed for a period of five days, from September 23 to 28. During this festive window, the use of loudspeakers will be allowed until midnight, providing a temporary extension to the regular time limit. This decision comes as a measure to facilitate the vibrant festivities associated with the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Deputy Chairman of the State Legislative Council, Neelam Gorhe, announced the relaxation of the loudspeaker deadline during the Ganesh festival. She specified that from September 23 to 28, loudspeakers can be played until midnight, deviating from the usual restriction of 10 pm on regular days.

Highlighting the significance of peaceful and joyful celebrations during Ganesh festival, Dahi Handi, and other upcoming festivities, Gorhe emphasized the importance of collaboration among governing bodies and systems to ensure coordinated efforts for the smooth execution of these events. This sentiment was echoed during a meeting held at the Pune Divisional Commissioner’s office, where civic officials gathered to discuss the regulations that will be followed by the administration in the lead-up to the festive period.

Addressing the attendees, Gorhe clarified that the licenses issued to Ganpati mandals in the previous year will remain valid until 2026, eliminating the need for them to reapply for permits. However, those mandals that have not obtained permission earlier are encouraged to submit their applications for review.

Furthermore, citizens have been urged to contribute their suggestions and feedback to the collector’s office, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and the police commissioner’s office. These inputs will be taken into account by the administration to enhance the festival experience and address any concerns. Notably, as the Dahi Handi festival is recognized as an adventure sport, public awareness demonstrations will be conducted to ensure safety, drawing inspiration from similar initiatives in Mumbai.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining law and order and efficient traffic management during the festivals, Gorhe emphasized the need for strategic planning to minimize inconvenience to commuters. Timely communication of any changes to residents is deemed essential to ensure smooth operations and to foster a sense of community engagement.

The temporary relaxation of the loudspeaker deadline reflects Pune’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions and ensuring the harmonious celebration of festivals while taking into consideration the needs of its residents.
